Releases from well established bands like R.E.M.’s Automatic for the People, Faith No More’s Angel Dust, and Sonic Youth’s Dirty all topped year-end album charts. Whitney Houston set the world ablaze with her cover of “I Will Always Love You" on The Bodyguard OST. Huge debut releases by Rage Against the Machine (Rage Against the Machine) and Pavement (Slanted & Enchanted) changed the music scene for decades to come.

In the east, music is like a place, or a time.

Americans discovered their president was, in fact, a crook… then re-elected him anyway. The Vietnam War was starting to really look like a bad idea. The last Japanese soldier from WWII was captured in his Guam jungle hideout.

Unlike, perhaps, some fellow Vortexers, it took me quite a few years to get serious about music listening. Therefore, choosing an album from the year I was 0 required some research. I found plenty of famous, important albums, but they were unfortunately too well known to spark an interesting discourse. I had to dig deeper. That’s how I stumbled on Pestilence’s Spheres. I was quite unfamiliar with Pestilence as a whole besides a few spins of Consuming Impulse and its… Charming cover art.
